Adalberto Campos Fernandes: Pizarro “is a pragmatist who has the ability to build bridges and consensus”

With the delivery of the Health portfolio to Manuel Pizarro, the former socialist minister who governed the portfolio between 2015 and 2018 sees possibilities for changes in Health in Portugal. Speaking to Rádio Observador, Adalberto Campos Fernandes recalls that Pizarro “has no complexes in relation to the various sectors”, between the private, the public and the social.

“It was during his time as Secretary of State that, for example, the dentist check-up that opened the possibility for people to turn to the private sector”, points out the socialist who highlights the “capacity for dialogue” recognized by Manuel Pizarro.

“It is a name that will be well accepted, it will work well with different areas. The problems are not going to disappear, they are many and very complex, but Manuel Pizarro has the ability to be pragmatic, not to entrench himself, he manages to build bridges and consensus”, says Adalberto Campos Fernandes.

Like Adalberto Campos Fernandes, Pizarro is also a doctor by training and the former minister defends the option of a health professional: “He is a doctor, he knows people’s problems and needs well. A doctor’s interpretation of health policy is necessarily different.

Without wishing to extend his comments, Adalberto says that it is still possible to “make up for lost time in Health.”
