More than 160 organizations pressure Biden to act against climate change

More than 160 organizations launched a new pressure campaign on Monday aimed at US President Joe Biden to fulfill his commitments to halve greenhouse gas emissions in his country by 2030.

The organizations presented the campaign, called “solutions for contamination“, during an event at the Progressive Ideas Lab Center for American Progress, and sent a letter to Biden asking him to keep his promises.

“time is running out. The longer we delay, the greater the cost of this inaction to Americans in both lives and dollars and in environmental devastation,” say the organizations involved, who say they represent tens of thousands of people in the US.

Specifically, the groups called on Biden to enforce 20 federal regulations to reduce pollution and protect the health of Americans, particularly members of the black and Hispanic minorities, who are disproportionately affected by this problem.

In this initiative, the vice president of the NextGen Education Fund, the African-American Harry Johnson II, explained that he became personally involved in the fight against climate change, since as a child he frequently suffered from asthma attacks when he lived in a highly polluted area.

In her turn, the executive director of Poder Latinx, Yadira Sánchez, also asked the Government to fulfill its promises to protect the most vulnerable communities.

Biden to approve new Inflation Reduction Act on Tuesdaywhich provides for more than 400,000 million dollars (398,000 million euros) in new investments, almost all of them focused on promoting the country’s green energy industry and reducing polluting gases.

This measure constitutes the largest investment against climate change in the history of the United States. Its supporters believe it could reduce the country’s polluting emissions by 40% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels.

However, Biden has pledged to reduce emissions in the United States by 50-52% in 203, compared to 2005.

The Inflation Reduction Act is one of the biggest measures against climate change approved by Biden since his arrival at the White House in January 2021, when he announced the return of the US -2021).
