German and French companies Nexter and KMW are designing a promising EMBT tank that will serve as the basis for European armies in the future.
A prototype tank was introduced at Eurosatory 2022 in Paris.
However, the start of tank production in batches is not planned until the middle of the next decade.
Experts do not exclude that after a long time in this project, serious changes will be made, which will lead to a change in the characteristics and technology of the tank.
On the basis of the promising tank, the designers put the platform of the German tank “Leopard – 2”, equipped with a more powerful engine producing 1,500 horsepower and an unmanned turret with a low height.
The designers of the tank said that a 120 mm gun with an automatic restructuring system will be the main armament of the tank and will have 22 shells. The tank will also have two machine guns: one with a 12.7 mm caliber, and the second with a double gun with a 7.62 mm caliber. The crew is at least 4 people.
The European tank – like the Russian “Armata”, is equipped with an unmanned remote-controlled turret with a 30 mm automatic cannon and its 150 shells. The tank runs up to a distance of 460 km at a speed of 60 km / h on an asphalt road with one-time refueling, and the tank weighs 61500.
It is reported that many are introducing the EMBT as a competitor for the Russian “T-14” (Armata), but the latter is almost ready for industrial production. But the future of the German-French tank is still uncertain.
