Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket company encountered a failed launch of its latest rocket during takeoff on Monday. There was no one in the capsule, which left the rocket and returned to Earth by parachute after aborting the mission. The missile spiraled out of control after what the company called an “anomaly”.
Blue Origin, the rocket company owned by Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos, suffered a disastrous launch Monday when its last rocket malfunctioned during takeoff, AP News reported. The rocket reportedly turned in the direction of West Texas just a minute after takeoff. Fortunately, the capsule launched by the rocket had no crew or passengers.
The arresting system of the launch pod immediately activated, lifting the ship from the top of the rocket. The capsule then safely parachuted onto the desert floor. Blue Origin’s comment on the launch was muted as the capsule bounced off the rocket, and later said, “It seems we encountered an anomaly in flight today. It was not planned.”
The problem arose as the rocket was traveling at about 700 miles per hour at an altitude of about 28,000 feet. No video of the rocket was shown, but footage of the capsule was taken.
Missiles launched by Blue Origin usually return safely to the desert floor, land vertically and can be reused for future launches, but not this time.
Launch commentator Erica Wagner said the capsule escaped successfully. The launch webcast showed that it reached a maximum altitude of 37,000 feet. The capsule was uncrewed, but conducted thirty-six experiments, half of which were sponsored by NASA.
The company later tweeted: “Booster failure in drone flight today. The evacuation system worked as intended.” This is the 23rd flight of the New Shepard program, named after Alan Shepard, the first American in space.
in 2021 Star wars Actor William Shatner and three other passengers flew into space on the Blue Origin rocket. Shatner became the oldest person in space at the age of 90.
That same year, Blue Origin also faced charges of promoting a toxic “sister culture” that led to distrust, low morale and project delays. The mid-level employee left the company in 2019, but not before sending a long note to Bezos and CEO Bob Smith in which he said, “Our current culture is toxic to our success, and many see it as pervasive throughout the company.” . The note states that the problems at Blue Origin are “systemic” and that “loss of confidence in Blue’s leadership is widespread”.
