Who does not remember the A and B generations of the Opel Commodore GSE, from Grand Sport Einspritzung, or Grand Sport Injection in English, a great family model that also dominated track competitions, especially in Group 1. Or even the Opel Monza GSE and , more recently the Astra GSi, which basically had the same meaning, only directly in English. Opel has now announced that the GSE will return and become the GSe, a sub-brand intended to house the Grand Sport Electric.
The next Opel models that combine power, sportiness and electric or electrified motors, specifically the plug-in hybrids (PHEV), will now bear the acronym GSe. And this fashion of the German manufacturer will start right now with the Astra GSe and the Grandland GSefollowed by others.
Opel has already announced that it intends to become a 100% electric brand from 2028 and the new sub-brand will only reinforce this decision. “Once again we have drawn inspiration from our rich history, as we have with our critically acclaimed new design, and given it a modern twist,” said Florian Huettl, CEO of the German manufacturer. To conclude that, “in the future, the acronym GSe will not only be synonymous with dynamic cars and driving pleasure, but will also represent the ‘Grand Sport Electric’ concept, in full alignment with the ambitious plan to become 100% electric. ”.
Customers of the GSe versions will enjoy a chassis configuration optimized for sportier usewhat Opel calls “crashproof” freeway”, after development sessions on German roads and highways. Despite this, the GSe range will continue to offer emissions benefits.
