Maritime disturbances put seven districts under orange alert

Seven districts will be under orange alert, the second most serious, from Wednesday night to Thursday mid-afternoon for maritime disturbances, according to the Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), as of 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon????????

The warning is extended until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, to then go down one level, to yellow, at least until 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

The information available in the IPMA advisories indicates that northwesterly waves of five to six meters and a maximum height of up to 11 meters are forecast for these districts.

The IPMA forecast for Wednesday rain that at times will be strong and persistent on the coast and in mountainous areas until mid-morning, changing to showers in the North and Central regions during the morning, strong winds on the coastal strip and in the mountains and strong maritime disturbances on the west coast.
