Madeira Civil Protection issues recommendations to the population in view of the forecast of bad weather

The Madeira Regional Civil Protection Service recommended this Thursday that the population remove loose objects from balconies and windowsills and advised special care when driving through the areas potentially most affected by bad weather.

The Madeira Civil Protection issued a set of recommendations following the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), which placed Madeira under orange and yellow warnings for agitation of the wind and the sea.

The regional service indicates that the forecast weather conditions may pose risks on pedestrian and car routes, “especially in mountainous areas, exposed slopes and coastal areas, for which reason special care is advised in activities” while the warnings are in force.

It also recommends that the population not circulate through areas with buildings degraded due to the risk of landslides, avoid areas affected by bad weather and pay attention to structures such as scaffolding, awnings, tents and roofs, “which could be affected by stronger gusts of wind”. wind, as well as a possible fall of trees.

The Port Authority of Funchal also extended storm surge and high wind advisories until 6:00 a.m. Fridayrecommending shipowners and owners to take the necessary precautions to guarantee their safety.

Porto Santo Line, the company responsible for the maritime connection between Madeira and Porto Santo, canceled the trips scheduled for Wednesday and today because the necessary security conditions were not met.
