The swimming pools of the Cidade de Almada Municipal Sports Complex will remain closed between 15 and 30 days due to the detection of the “legionella” bacterium in the periodic analyzes carried out in the facilities, the municipality announced.
In information available on its official website, the Almada City Council, in the Setúbal district, explains that “all the security protocol that is required in these circumstances is being complied with and in close collaboration with the public health authority”, to who the result of the analyzes carried out has already been communicated.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused and we inform you that, with the aim of preventing similar situations in the future as far as possible, the Almada City Council is currently proceeding with the acquisition of equipment for chemical and thermal control of the water of the Municipal Pools. ”, adds the statement. autarchy.
This equipment, explains the chamber, although it is not required by law, will seek to guarantee the uninterrupted activity of users.
The pools had already been closed on October 28 for the same reason, and activities resumed on November 16.
Legionnaires’ disease, caused by the bacterium Legionella pneumophila, is contracted by inhaling contaminated water vapor droplets (aerosols) so small that they carry the bacteria into the lungs, depositing it in the air sacs of the lungs.
