Twenty-six reservoirs with water availability greater than 80% in February

Twenty-six of the 59 reservoirs monitored at the end of February had availabilities greater than 80% of the total volume, while nine had values less than 40%, according to data from the National Water Resources Information System (SNIRH).

According to the data, on the last day of February and compared to the last day of the previous month, there was a decrease in nine and an increase in the volume stored in three river basins.

The Barlavento Algarve basin, with 13.1%, had the lowest amount of water stored in the world at the end of February. The average storage for the month of February in the Barlavento basin is 73.8%, according to SNIRH.

The Mira (36.8%), Arade (41.5%) and Sado (58.9%) basins also had less water availability.

El Guadiana (85.8%), Tagus (85.7%), Duero (80.7%), Oeste (80.2%), Cávado and Lima (78.1%), Mondego (66.5%) and Ave (64.7%) present the highest levels.

The February 2023 storages by basin are higher than the February storage averages (1990/91 to 2021/22), except in the Ave, Mondego, Sado, Mira, Ribeiras do Algarve and Arade basins.

Each hydrographic basin can correspond to more than one reservoir.
