The Lisbon-Tires (Cascais)/Tires-Lisbon route by private jet was, in 2022, the second most carbon-intensive in Europe, with 108.68 kilos of CO2 per kilometer, according to data released by Greenpeace, in Brussels, this Wednesday -fair .

According to a study by the environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) Greenpeace, the route between Lisbon and Tiros, the shortest in the country, rose one position, from 2021 to 2022, in the table of carbon intensity in rrecord emissions of 108.68 kilos of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometera total of 118 flights in private jets covering the distance of 20.37 kilometers between the capital’s airport and the aerodrome on the outskirts of Lisbon.

At the top of the carbon intensity table, which analyzes routes with more than ten flights a year, is the route between Farnborough and Blackbushe, in the United Kingdom, with 13 flights registered in 2022 to travel 7.41 kilometers and which produced 240.23 kilos of CO2 per kilometer

Last year, 7,994 private jets left Portugal, an increase of 81% compared to 2021, and which emitted a total of 65.32 tons of CO2 (98% more than the previous year)which translates into an average of 8.2 tons of CO2 per kilometer, the equivalent of 32,000 kilometers in a gasoline car.

Faro continues to be the airport with the highest number of private jet flights, with 2,684 registered flights, with London being the main destination and the route with the highest number of flights departing and arriving in Lisbon.

Lisbon and Porto occupy, respectively, the second and third place with 1,784 and 1,521 flights, London being the main destination in both cases.

The number of private jet flights increased by 64% in Europe during the same period and CO2 emissions more than doubled, according to Greenpeace.
