Seven students set up tents this Wednesday inside the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon (FPUL), demanding an end to fossil fuels by 2030 and 100% renewable electricity by 2025, in a symbolic action against the climate crisis.

According to Teresa Cintra, spokeswoman for the nucleus of the Faculty of Psychology and the Institute of Education (FPIE), of the “End of the Fossil: Occupy!” movement, these occupations are intended to give visibility to the climate crisis and attract 1,500 people to block the liquefied natural gas terminal (LNG) from the Port of Sines on May 13.
“[O nosso] The goal is to attract 1,500 people who pledged to join us in the biggest civil disobedience action that Portugal has ever seen, which is to stop the Sines gas port,” Teresa Cintra told Lusa.
For the climate activist, “the action that takes place in the FPUL is disruptive” with the presentation of lectures in the classroom.
“The first days will be more than talks, we will give a talk in a class, we will present the squats (…), we will talk about the climate crisis, we will give talks about capitalism versus the climate crisis, a series of topics… and we hope to have other projects ”, he indicated.
Teresa Cintra explained that climate activists have continue the protest until the government agrees to their demands or until they get 1,500 people to participate in the Stop the Gas campaign in Sines, who can register on the Stop Porto de Gas online platform (https://pararogas.pt/).
“It will happen, it has to happen. We are visualizing a conflict. People will realize that this is an issue that will affect everyone in unimaginable ways, and that everyone will understand that they have to join us if they want to. ensure a quality future“he added.
The occupations begin in Lisbon (Higher Technical Institute, Faculty of Arts and Psychology of the University of Lisbon and Doña Luísa de Gusmão High School) and Faro (Faro University and Tomás Cabreira High School).
