The Finnish Valtteri Bottas and the Chinese Zhou Guanyu remain at Alfa Romeo (Sauber) until 2024, while the Frenchman Théo Pourchaire will maintain his role as reserve driver, the Swiss Formula 1 team confirmed this Thursday.
“The decision to continue with an unchanged driver team demonstrates the investment we have made in our project,” explained team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi.
The 24-year-old driver Zhou Guanyu made history in F1 and in his country by becoming, in 2022, with Alfa Romeo, the first Chinese to compete in a Grand Prix of the premier class of motorsport.
The Finnish Valtteri Botas, 34, came to F1 in 2013 with Williams and in 2017 he was hired by Mercedes, to replace the German world champion Nico Rosberg after his retirement.
Zhou’s stay as a regular driver also ends Théo Pourcehaire’s hopes of joining the F1 championship next year. The Frenchman will continue as the team’s reserve driver.
