The storm DANA, which has hit the Valencian Community in recent days, has formed a huge lake south of the city of Valencia, significantly expanding the size of the well-known L’Albufera, a lagoon located in a natural park and which is one of the main tourist attractions of the region.
The images from the Landsat-8 satellite, released this Thursday by the European Space Agency, illustrate well the historical dimension of the floods that are affecting the Valencian Community, where it has not rained so much, in so few hours, since 1966. According to the State Agency of Meteorology of Spain (Aemet), it rained in Valencia in just eight hours, which is what it usually rains in an entire year.
The northern shore of the lake that was formed by the rains is now located near the outskirts of the city of Valencia.
In the interactive map above you can see, on the left side, an image of the territory captured on October 8 and, on the right side, the same territory on October 30, which “shows the dramatic transformation of the landscape.” highlights the European Space Agency.
