The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) updated the yellow warning issued for the Azores, on Saturday and Sunday, due to the sometimes intense rainfall and the increase in the intensity of the wind, due to the passage of the Storm Patty.
According to the IPMA statement, on the islands of Corvo and Flores, which form the western group, the yellow warning is in force from 3:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. Lisbon time) until 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, due to sometimes heavy rainfall. , which could be accompanied by thunderstorms.
In the central group (Terceira, Faial, Pico, São Jorge and Graciosa), the warning issued by the IPMA is in force from 3:00 p.m. on Saturday until 6:00 a.m., also due to sometimes intense rainfall, which may be accompanied by storms.
On the islands of São Miguel and Santa María (eastern group), occasional heavy rainfall is expected, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms between 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
According to the IPMA, subtropical storm Patty was located on Saturday, at 9:00 a.m., approximately 675 kilometers west/northwest of the Azores.
It is moving east/southeast at 11 kilometers per hour, with a change of trajectory towards the east on Sunday and towards the east-northeast on Monday.
According to IPMA, “little changes in its intensity are expected today [sábado]”, but “a gradual weakening is expected until early next week.”
The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation occurs for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
