IPMA places seven islands in the Azores on orange alert

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) updated orange Precipitation warnings, sometimes heavy and accompanied by storms, for seven of the nine islands of the Azores.

In the Eastern group (São Miguel and Santa María), the orange warning is in force until 12:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. in Lisbon), due to sometimes intense rainfall, which may be accompanied by storms.

The Azores are under the influence of the passage of subtropical storm Patty.

A yellow warning was also issued until 6:00 p.m. due to the strong wind that will blow from the south and turn north.

On the islands of Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Terceira and Graciosa, which form the Central group, the warning has been in force since 01:32 on Sunday, with a yellow warning also in force due to the wind, which also blows from the south and rotates north.

The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever a moderate to high risk meteorological situation occurs.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation occurs for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
