The strike by Public Administration workers is registering “a lot of support” in schools and in the National Health Service (SNS), with several schools closed and hospitals and health centers operating “with very limited services”, according to a source union.
“Adherence in health and schools is very high,” The undersecretary general of the National Federation of Independent Unions of Public Administration and Entities with Public Purposes (Fesinap) stated this to the Lusa agency, although without providing figures.
In the Northern region, Helder Sá, highlighted levels of adhesion “not very different from the 80/90% of last Thursday”, in which another strike by public sector workers took place.
According to Helder Sá, in the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Santo Tirso, the adherence to the strike “in health and schools it is very high”while in the south he highlighted the cases of the Barreiro, Curry Cabra and Loures hospitals, which are operating “with very limited services.”
In the services of the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN), which the federation admitted could be among the most affected, the impact is not being so great due to the agreed minimum services.
Called by Fesinap, the strike covers the central, regional and local administration, as well as “other workers covered by the statutory scope” of this federation “who perform functions in the SNS”, according to the notice published on the website of the General Directorate of Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP).
This strike occurs after on Thursday the National Union of Service Workers and Entities with Public Purposes (STTS), linked to Fesinap, called for a strike in the public sector, which had a special impact on the health and education sector, according to said the president of This union structure then indicated Lusa.
Among the main demands of the union center is “the increase in salary level for all workers with at least 10 years of service with a current public employment contract, regardless of the type of contract” and “as long as they have not progressed through the Integrated System for Management and Evaluation of Performance in Public Administration (SIADAP)” .
It also calls for the review of this evaluation system, the replacement of points lost for the purposes of professional progression and the establishment of the food card in the Public Administration “through negotiation in a Collective Agreement of Public Entrepreneurs (ACEP), for a daily value of 10, 20 euros, tax free.”
This strike occurs on the same day that the Secretary of State for Public Administrations met again with three representative structures of the Public Service, following the request for a complementary meeting presented by the unions, as no agreement was reached with the Government.
However, there is already white smoke in the negotiations between the executive and the unions. The Government has slightly revised the salary proposal for 2025 delivered to civil servant unions: for salaries up to about 2,620 euros gross, where the majority of workers are, there will be increases of 56.58 euros (instead of 55.26 euros proposed above), and from now on a minimum of 2.15% (instead of 2.1%).
