The automobile market grew by 5% until October compared to the same period last year, with 205,649 new registrations in circulation, according to data from the Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP), published this Monday.
The same information indicates that in the first 10 months of this year, 173,133 passenger cars were registered, an increase of 3.5%.
Of these light vehicles, 56% run on alternative energy, a category that includes electric vehicles that run solely on batteries (18.8%), hybrids (16.6%), hybrids complement (13.4%) and others (7.2%)—followed by gasoline (35.2%) and diesel (8.7%) vehicles.
Among light vehicles, an increase of 15.7% was recorded from January to October, up to 26,167.
In heavy vehicles, the number of new registrations increased by 6.7%, up to 6,349.
In October alone, the ACAP barometer points to 18,653 registrationswhich translates into a growth of 10% year-on-year.
Among registered vehicles, the majority (15,291) are passenger cars, followed by light vehicles (2,530) and heavy vehicles (832), with respective increases of 10.3%, 4.7% and 23.4% compared to at the same month of 2023.
