The Secretary General of NATO guarantees that the Atlantic Alliance will work in the same way with Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, focusing on defense against the Russian threat.
The Secretary General of NATO assured this Monday that the Atlantic Alliance will work with the candidate who wins the North American presidential elections and will do everything possible to remain united.
“We will work with Kamala Harris, we will work with Donald Trump and we will make sure the alliance stays together.“said Mark Rutte during a joint press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“I have no doubt, because it is in our interest and that of the United States,” added the secretary general, who replaced the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg at the head of the Alliance a month ago.
Confident that the United States will continue to participate in NATO, Mark Rutte explained that the Americans “know that if Putin is successful in Ukraine, Russia, emboldened, will be on our flank and will represent a direct threat to NATO territories.”
“That’s why they’re involved in Ukraine, that’s why they’re involved in NATO.“he added.
When he took office on October 1, Mark Rutte, who was prime minister of the Netherlands for 14 years, said he was not worried about the outcome of the US election.
“I know both candidates very well and worked with Donald Trump for four years,” he said.
