Chris Wallace Resurrected: Defunct CNN+ Show Moves to Sundays on CNN and HBO Max

Former Fox News host Chris Wallace saw his booming career at CNN come to an abrupt end after the left-wing cable network’s new corporate parent returned to the broadcast service CNN+ after just a month at work.

Now Wallace is getting a second chance, and the network has announced that his show, Who’s Talking With Chris Wallace, will be live in prime time every Sunday this fall. It will also air on HBO Max, which, like CNN, is owned by recently merged media giant Warner Bros. discovery.

CNN’s new chairman, Chris Licht, made the announcement Wednesday at Warner Bros. Discovery did not specify, however, in what timeframe Wallace’s show will run. He said Wallace will be part of a new “CNN Sunday” programming block that will include a range of journalism.

Wallace’s decision came as CNN faced a major jolt after Discovery’s merger with WarnerMedia. CNN+ was one of the main victims of the merger after the streaming service only drew 150,000 subscribers. Jeff Zucker had to leave due to low ratings.

Wallace left Fox News last year after a feud with primetime hosts Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity. She later moved to CNN to present her own show on CNN+.

During his brief stint on CNN+, Wallace was reportedly beaten regularly in front of his team for the “miserable failure” of the new streaming platform. The host also wanted her own show on CNN and threatened to leave if her demands were not met.

Wallace is reportedly requesting Chris Cuomo’s old CNN primetime time slot.

On Wednesday, CNN’s Licht spoke about the network’s grand ambitions under the new management, including a commitment to challenge “cable news standards.”

“The next episode on CNN is where we aim to be a beacon for the kind of journalism needed for a functioning democracy,” he said.
