Charlotte’s birthday and Sienna’s christening: the British royal family’s weekend of celebration

Princess Charlotte turns seven on May 2. She was photographed by her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, with the family dog, Orla.

The British royal family is growing in size and the great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II become the protagonists of events and the target of public curiosity. This is how it happened this weekend: on Sunday night the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge kicked off the celebrations of Princess Charlotte’s seventh birthday, with the publication of two new portraits, and on Friday the christening of Sienna Elizabeth, daughter of Princess Beatrice of York and granddaughter of Prince Andrew.

Princess Charlotte, the middle child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, turns seven on Monday, May 2. On Sunday night, the parents published two photographs of the little “royal” on their social networks on the occasion of the date, with the photo caption “Tomorrow at seven” and the birthday cake emoji. In one of these two new photos, the princess is accompanied by the family’s pet dog, Orla, seen in public for the first time. The photographs are said to have been taken near the Duke and Duchess’ country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk.

On Saturday it was Princess Beatrice who broke the news. Hello magazine reported that Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, baptized her daughter last Friday. The ceremony was private and took place at St. James’s Chapel, the royal residence where the Princess of York lives. Members of both families will have been present. DailyMail published images of Prince Andrew claiming to be leaving the christening. The newspaper also confirms the presence of Sarah Ferguson, mother of Princess Beatrice, and affirms that Queen Elizabeth II will not have been present at the ceremony, since that day she had two virtual audiences from Windsor Castle.

Social networks, namely Instagram and Twitter, are increasingly the priority forms of direct communication between royalty and the public.

Sienna Elizabeth was born on September 18, 2021. Thirteen days after her arrival, her parents revealed her name through this medium, a tribute to both her father’s Italian origins and her maternal great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

As has been the custom since the birth of her first child, Kate Middleton shares with the public photos of her children taken by herself to mark important moments in their lives, such as birthdays. The Duchess of Cambridge’s taste for photography is well known and the images she publishes of her children are characterized by her good humor and, above all, by outdoor activities.

Charlotte of Cambridge is the second of three children born to William and Kate, before Prince George was born on July 23, 2013 and, just a few days ago, Prince Louis turned four on April 23.
