Washington Post Author Perry Bacon Jr. On Monday, President Joe Biden’s “political collapse” in negative media coverage.
Instead of blaming Biden for policies that led to 40 years of high inflation, record high gas prices, the deadly Afghan retreat and occupation of the southern border, Bacon Jr. wrote. A full article on media responsibility for Biden not reporting in the polls.
Biden’s approval numbers have dropped to 30 percent, according to Civiqs. Just “26 percent of Democratic voters said the party should nominate him in 2024.” New York Times found last week.
“Mainstream media played a large but underestimated role in waning support for President Biden last year,” the “media hysteria” article states, “a marked increase in Biden’s negative media coverage.”
High inflation. Manchin and Cinema. Some of my own mistakes. But I think one of the biggest problems for Biden is that the mainstream media is trying to “balance” its coverage of anti-Trump activities in 2017-2020. https://t.co/PZpjvTkTQ3

“[I]In my view, media coverage is a major contributor to survey skew,” continued Bacon Jr. “Yes, I urge the media to take Biden more positively… Ideally, the media will compare the resolutions of Republicans and Democrats on each issue. You can see how this model can help Biden.”
He mentioned Bacon Jr. This negative coverage of Biden began after the deadly withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in August 2021 and has not improved since. “Journalists and the media have criticized the president,” he complained about the publication of the mortal separation. “As The Post’s Dana Milbank wrote in December, analysis of the data showed a marked increase in negative media coverage of Biden beginning in August.”
The article cited media coverage of the deadly union breakup as a catalyst for more negative coverage of the president, including dubious stories of Democratic infighting, rising inflation, and Biden’s handling of coronavirus deaths:
After the withdrawal of funds, the media combined other events with narratives of the “Biden Struggles”: Democrats arguing over the party agenda, poor results in Democratic New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial elections, rising inflation, and rising delta and ohmron. Elections. Biden’s role in these matters is often exaggerated.
“It’s too early to tell if President Biden is all right,” Bacon Jr. said. “But most Americans don’t get it. The media is focused on showing us that Biden isn’t too biased towards Democrats, rather than telling us if he’s influential.”
The article comes after a Gallup poll found that only 16 percent trust “fair” newspapers and 11 percent trust TV news. Both media outlets have lost five points of confidence in the year since Biden took office.
