The founding media underestimated the Republican Party’s chances. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is up for re-election Tuesday, after months of blooming as vice chair of the pro-removal Republican party committee on Jan.
Cheney has little chance of winning against Trump-backed Harriet Hageman in Tuesday’s primary. Cheney loses the polls by 30, 28 and 22 points. Among prospective Republican voters, Cheney is 57 points behind.
The establishment media apparently read the polls and agreed that Cheney’s term as a member of Congress was over. In the past few days, the media has published several articles that dampen expectations that Cheney will retain his seat:

- Financial Times: Liz Cheney prepares for a primary defeat after spearheading the Republican offensive against Trump

Media attention to Cheney came after he was removed from the third-place vote of no confidence in the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives in May 2021. A few months ago, Cheney, along with nine other Republicans, voted to impeach former President Donald Trump. The GOP group quickly replaced Cheney with Rep. A month later, Cheney became vice chairman of the committee on January 6, Rep. Cheney’s alliance with the Democrats began to deteriorate his political position within the country. As the GOP primary approaches, Cheney has taken bolder steps to stay at the center of the committee’s attention. Cheney’s media support appears to coincide with Trump’s poll in Wyoming, where he won nearly 70 percent in 2020. A Growth Club poll in May showed Cheney dropped 30 points. Two additional polls in July confirmed that Cheney was in big trouble with Hageman.
But the establishment media continued to praise Cheney throughout the summer:

According to PredictIt rates, Cheney’s chances of retaining his seat on Tuesday are just 3 cents per dollar. Harriet’s chance of winning the seat is 97 cents per dollar.
