Government media downplayed Liz Cheney’s chances for reelection on Tuesday

The founding media underestimated the Republican Party’s chances. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is up for re-election Tuesday, after months of blooming as vice chair of the pro-removal Republican party committee on Jan.

Cheney has little chance of winning against Trump-backed Harriet Hageman in Tuesday’s primary. Cheney loses the polls by 30, 28 and 22 points. Among prospective Republican voters, Cheney is 57 points behind.

The establishment media apparently read the polls and agreed that Cheney’s term as a member of Congress was over. In the past few days, the media has published several articles that dampen expectations that Cheney will retain his seat:

  • Newspaper “New York Times: “The possible end of the Cheney dynasty in Wyoming will close a political era”
  • Financial Times: Liz Cheney prepares for a primary defeat after spearheading the Republican offensive against Trump
  • Washington post: “Liz Cheney’s political life is likely to end – and it’s only just beginning.”
  • NPR: Liz Cheney looks set to lose Wyoming Republican primary
  • Associated Press: “Cheney poised for defeat as Trump tries to try in Wyoming and Alaska.”
  • politics: “Cheney’s next assignment is to uphold his anti-Trump slogan.”
  • CNN: “Cheney struggles to sustain Trump’s tough Wyoming primary.”
  • ABC News: “Does Wyoming want Liz Cheney to take the House seat?”
  • NBC News: Liz Cheney is the final stop on Trump’s impeachment revenge tour. But he is the key to your future.
  • Vox: “Liz Cheney’s primaries are all about Donald Trump, with the exception of Wyoming.”

Media attention to Cheney came after he was removed from the third-place vote of no confidence in the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives in May 2021. A few months ago, Cheney, along with nine other Republicans, voted to impeach former President Donald Trump. The GOP group quickly replaced Cheney with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). “It makes me sad and angry,” Cheney said at the conference when he heard a “simple remark” from McCarthy and Stefanik. Atlantic leibovich

A month later, Cheney became vice chairman of the committee on January 6, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (R-CA). “The announcement is effectively Ms. Cheney, second-ranking member of the committee, which is an unusual move for the majority party in the House of Representatives and often gives the position to one of her own members.” Sometimes reported. “But his appointment was a breach of contract from the start.”

Cheney’s alliance with the Democrats began to deteriorate his political position within the country. In November 2021, the Wyoming Republican Party voted to no longer recognize Cheney as a Republican. “Liz Cheney has long failed to recognize what worries the people of Wyoming. When Hageman launched his war against President Trump, he completely destroyed where we stand as a country,” she said. Casper Star Tribune.

As the GOP primary approaches, Cheney has taken bolder steps to stay at the center of the committee’s attention. The media applauded his efforts. “Liz Cheney of Wyoming, a former Republican leader who was impeached and ostracized by her own party for smashing former President Donald J. Trump’s false election allegations, is a force again on Capitol Hill,” the article said. Sometimes He wrote: “This time as one of the most active and aggressive members of the special commission to investigate the terrorist attack on January 6th.”

Cheney’s media support appears to coincide with Trump’s poll in Wyoming, where he won nearly 70 percent in 2020. A Growth Club poll in May showed Cheney dropped 30 points. Two additional polls in July confirmed that Cheney was in big trouble with Hageman.

But the establishment media continued to praise Cheney throughout the summer:

The Wyoming Republican not only acknowledged his role as the leading figure in the sweeping congressional investigation into the January 6, 2021 riots, but also put the Republican Party’s face on the anti-Trump movement in the process – a high-stakes gamble. which made him both a pariah and a hero at his conference. For national Republicans struggling to distance the party from the influence of former President Trump.

According to PredictIt rates, Cheney’s chances of retaining his seat on Tuesday are just 3 cents per dollar. Harriet’s chance of winning the seat is 97 cents per dollar.
