George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley wrote that if, as some Democrats have argued, it is illegal for GOP governors to move immigrants across the country, President Joe Biden is “the biggest ‘coyote’ in history.”
The term “coyote” refers to smugglers who work for Mexican cartels and are paid thousands of dollars per migrant to transport people from points in Central America to the US border, sometimes under attack and robbing them on the way.
Turley published a column Monday in response to the California Governor’s calls. Gavin Newsom (right) will arrest Florida Governor. Ron DeSantis (right) for kidnapping after he transferred 50 immigrants to the wealthy liberal enclave of Martha’s Vineyard last week.
Other Democrats and liberal pundits made similar appeals to DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who brought immigrants to Washington DC, the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris, has been arrested for similar crimes, including “human trafficking.”
Turley said these calls were legally fraudulent, especially since the Biden administration had been moving immigrants across the border to locations across the US for years until they were deported.
The Biden administration has moved thousands of immigrants across the country without much public disclosure, including night flights that Republicans refer to as clandestine “ghost flights.” These posts have been advocated by Democrats and others as standard practice in the last three administrations. This is because thousands of migrants regularly flood border towns, despite administration officials including Homeland Security Minister Alejandro Majorcas and most recently, Vice President Kamala Harris insisting the border is safe.
The trips organized by the three Republican governors were denounced as a political demonstration. They do indeed exist, but are not criminal unless there is new evidence of coercion or fraud. There were reports that some immigrants were allowed to get off buses to New York, and some said they were lured in cities of asylum by promises of opportunity or protection. However, there is no evidence of systemic fraud or misrepresentation. Also, even if it’s a misrepresentation, it doesn’t constitute some of the crimes alleged on cable television, including Hillary Clinton’s allegation that she constituted “actual human trafficking.”
…
In theory, public interest groups who arrange transportation or persons transporting immigrants could be prosecuted on the same grounds under Article 1324. This would be the largest “coyote” in history.

Byron York wrote in his column on Monday, Washington Auditor He notes that the debate surrounding Martha’s Vineyard obscures a fundamental issue: how to protect the southern border from illegal crossings.
