Canada confirmed its agreement with the European Union on what it described as “isolating Russia” in the backdrop of ongoing military operations in Ukraine, and stressed that it would work to expedite Finland’s entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Today, on Monday, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said at a joint press conference with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell ahead of Canada’s talks with the European Union: as separate. “We will discuss the sanctions that Canada and the European Union will impose against Russia,” he said.
Regarding the unity of the stand on sanctions against Russia, Jolie said: “Some member states, the difficulty in ending Russia’s gas dependence, etc.
Regarding Finland’s efforts to join NATO, he said, “Finland and Canada have common interests and will work to expedite Finland’s membership if Canada applies to NATO.”
