Firefighters in the West German city of Paderborn said 38 injured, some seriously, were taken to hospital as a hurricane hit the city on Friday. For their part, the local police said that “one person is in critical condition.”

The hurricane also caused serious property damage to this city in the center of the province of Renania in North Westphalia, which is subject to a storm that is currently crossing Germany after an unusual rise in temperatures at this time of year.

In nearby Rinania-Palatinate, “a 38-year-old man died after being electrocuted while entering a flooded basement due to bad weather,” police said.

A spokesman for the fire department said the city of Lipstad, located about thirty kilometers from Paderborn, “was also hit by the cyclone, with no casualties reported yet.”

The storm took a heavy toll in this region in western Germany, where security forces reported roofs collapsing and trees falling. In addition, photos posted on social media show overturned vehicles. A major violation was recorded in the movement of trains, the police urged residents to stay at home.

In Paderborn, the police estimated “millions” of euros of “destruction” caused by the hurricane, which mobilized more than 350 intervention forces. The hurricane that swept through the houses, sweeping trees with it, is captured in many photos posted on social networks.
