Finland’s Gazprom has suspended gas exports to Finland’s neighbor in the latest escalation of a dispute with Western countries over how to pay for energy, a Finnish gas system operator has said.
The import of gas through the entrance point of Imatra has been stopped, the Finnish gas grid said in a statement.
Imatra is the entry point for Russian gas into Finland.
Finland’s state-owned gas wholesale company said on Friday that Russia’s Gazprom had been shut off since 4:00 a.m. GMT.
Russia’s Gazprom has asked European countries to pay for Russian gas in rubles due to sanctions imposed on Russia over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but Finland has refused.
