The assassination of Reed, a former US soldier, described his detention in Russia as “terrible”.
Reid spoke to CNN in an interview about his detention because he spent about three years in a psychiatric center in Russia.
He was sentenced to nine years in prison in Moscow in July 2020 for endangering the “lives and health” of Russian police officers during a dispute, and was released last April in a swap deal between Washington and Moscow.
Reid, who has been in custody since 2019, has denied the allegations, while going on a hunger strike twice in protest of his arbitrary detention and “numerous and blatant human rights violations by Russian authorities.” Previous CNN report
Reid said he, along with seven other inmates, all of whom had serious health and mental health problems, were in a cell inside a psychiatric center and had been charged with a number of offenses, including murder and rape.
“Inside the cell. It was not a good place. … The walls were covered in blood. Some of the prisoners killed themselves or others. The toilet is like a hole in the ground. They were.” Zombies.
He told CNN that he sometimes stayed awake for two days for fear of what other people in the cell would do to him because he felt he might be killed.
Reid indicated he was not sure he would be released from Russian prison and may never return to the United States because he was “depriving himself of a sense of hope” to leave Russia.
The American network noted that Reid and his family pledged to continue their activities because of the Americans detained abroad.
According to Reuters, Paul Villan, a former rifleman, and Britney Grenier, an Olympic gold medalist and basketball star, are being held in Russia.
On Thursday, US President Joe Biden welcomed the return of the assassination of American soldier Reid, who had been detained there.
Whelan’s family called on US President Joe Biden to press for his release, especially after an exchange deal that helped Reed’s release from prison.
