“Progress in the field of human rights in all countries must be respected,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a video conference with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
He pointed out that “the national characteristics of each country are different, and there are differences in history, culture, social system and level of socio-economic development”, noting that “it is necessary and possible to proceed only from the real situation in the country and the needs of people in order to find the appropriate way of developing human rights”.
The Chinese President stressed that escaping from reality and blindly copying the models of other countries can lead to disastrous consequences, which will ultimately lead to the suffering of many people. Xi Jinping also pointed out that China is willing to maintain active dialogue and develop human rights cooperation with all parties on the basis of equality and mutual respect, expand consensus, reduce differences, share best practices, and promote the promotion of human rights for human rights.
