The Al Jazeera news network has decided to refer the criminal case of the murder of a colleague Sherin Abu Akla to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
The network confirmed: “We have formed an international legal alliance, which includes our legal team and international experts, to prepare a complete dossier to present to the court’s Attorney General,” stating that “the ICC legal dossier will include the Israeli bombing of the Al Jazeera office in Gaza.” and its destruction in May 2021.”
Palestinian Attorney General Akram Al-Khatib announced today during a press conference detailing the Palestinian Prosecutor’s Office report on the murder of journalist Shirin Abu Akle that “the investigation has proven that an Israeli soldier shot Shirin Abu Akle. and hit her in the head when she tried to escape. He proved that the bullet that killed Shirin contained an armor-piercing iron shard.”
The public prosecutor confirmed that “the investigation proved that the characteristics of the bullet that hit Abu Akila was from an Israeli sniper weapon and from the location of Israeli forces”, stressing that “the totality of the facts shows the presence of elements of the premeditated murder of Shirin and the attempted murder of her colleague Ali Al-Samoudi.
Israeli occupying forces killed Al Jazeera correspondent Shirin Abu Akle while covering the assault on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. Going back and breaking into the family’s home in Jerusalem and then attacking Abu Akila’s funeral during the funeral drew international condemnation and outrage.
