The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate said it had severed ties with the Russian Orthodox Church amid Russia’s war with Ukraine.

And she emphasized in her statement after the meeting on Russian “aggression” that “we do not agree with the position of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow regarding the war”, declaring “the complete independence and independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church” in a historic move against spiritual authorities in Russia.

She focused on “we condemn the war as a violation of God’s command ‘Thou shalt not kill’ and offer our condolences to those who suffer in the war.”

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate has so far been loyal to Patriarch Kirill of Russia, who expresses clear support for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine.

The move perpetuates the split, the second recorded in Ukraine in recent years, since part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church split from Moscow in 2019 amid the Kremlin’s role in Ukraine.
