Former United States President Donald Trump on Friday rejected the call for tougher gun laws after the Texas school massacre, arguing that good Americans should be allowed to have guns to defend themselves against the “devil.”
Addressing members of the National Rifle Association, Trump said that “the presence of evil in our world is not a reason to disarm lawful citizens,” but “one of the most important reasons to arm them.”
The former president attended the National Arms Lobby Forum in Houston, three days after the massacre at Yowaldi Elementary School in Texas, in which a young man killed 19 children and two schools with a semi-automatic device. Gun
“The various gun control policies promoted by the left do nothing to prevent this horrific incident, absolutely nothing,” Trump added.
Trump named all the children who died, calling them the victims of an uncontrollable “crazy” person, and went on to say that efforts to control gun ownership were “strange.”
“We must all unite, Republicans and Democrats, to strengthen our schools and protect our children,” he said.
