The World Economic Forum (WEF) concluded its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, with a stern warning about the future of the planet and the threats posed by reliance on meat protein in the daily diet.
Reply? Consumers need to stop grilling as soon as possible, change their eating habits and switch to vegan meat alternatives.
These include grains and algae, algae, cacti and even avocado seeds, as well as many “climatic foods” and meatless protein sources that will save the planet from destruction.
The WEF says the food system is responsible for one-third of total global CO2 emissions, so now is the time to change your personal diet.
Switching to a basic plant-based diet can also prevent the loss of thousands of wildlife species.
By 2050 we will have 10 billion mouths on a finite planet.

“This food crisis is real and we must find solutions,” World Trade Organization CEO Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala told the WEF trade panel on Wednesday.
The WEF has released an introductory list to help consumers transform their diets using “new and innovative options that are just beginning to reach the global market.” These include:
-
- Seaweed: While algae can improve the diet by combining its carbon-negative profile in a sustainable source, it’s good for your health thanks to its essential fatty acids, high vitamin content and antioxidants. While seaweed may not be appealing to the most discerning consumers, umami actually has a meaty flavor, making it an ideal meat substitute. They can also be dried and ground to make a healthy savory seasoning and sauce.
- cacti: Many types of cacti are edible and high in vitamins C and E, carotenoids, fiber and amino acids. Cactus stems have long been part of the Mexican culinary tradition and are now starting to enter the international market with delicious new concepts.
- Unusual cereals: If you don’t want to change your diet with unconventional ingredients, you can choose a more gradual change by changing your carbohydrate sources. Although there are 21 grain families, rice, wheat and corn currently account for more than 50% of world grain consumption. Choosing a variety of grains (like amaranth, fonio or buckwheat) will not only give you more nutritional value, but will also help improve soil health and preserve biodiversity.
WEF previously announced the move as group Switching to a plant-based diet is important to protect wildlife habitats and prevent the loss of many species that are currently endangered.
Hollywood is also known for proposing the same message about changing eating habits to save the planet from “a certain doom.”
