Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh reacted to statements by the French and German foreign ministries regarding Iran’s arrest of two Greek ships in Persian Gulf waters, saying: “We strongly reject such unilateral and unfounded statements that seem to become a habit ingrained in its exporters.” .
He called on the two countries to “support lawsuits based on international law aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation and safety at sea, instead of running ahead and supporting the violations committed by Greek ships”, and stated that “unfortunately, these countries are protesting against the measures, legal provisions adopted by Iran, but silent on the illegal arrest and unloading by the Greek authorities of an Iranian-flagged vessel.
“Such inappropriate interference with Iran’s independent judiciary will not help solve the problems,” Khatibzadeh said, adding: “Therefore, as we have informed the Greek authorities, it is better to take action to resolve these issues through legal and judicial methods, rather than political and media moves.”
The Revolutionary Guard announced the capture of two Greek oil tankers, Delta in Sweden and Prudent and Rior, off the coast of Bandar Lanka and Asaluye. This comes after Greece had previously stopped an Iranian-flagged oil tanker whose cargo had been confiscated by US authorities.
