In response to similar statements by French and German foreign ministries spokesmen regarding two Greek ships intercepted by Iran in Gulf waters, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said, “We strongly reject such unilateral and baseless statement. It has become a habit among its publishers. ”
“We advise these countries to support international law-based judicial remedies to ensure freedom of navigation and maritime security, rather than falsely supporting the violations committed by the two Greek ships and fled forward, ”Khatibzadeh said.
“While these countries are unfortunately protesting the legal measures taken in Iran, they remain silent about the illegal hijacking and release of the Iranian-flagged ship by the Greek authorities in response to the locals. law of another country, ”he said.
“Such improper interventions in our country’s independent judicial process will not help resolve the problems, and as we assured the Greek authorities, the issue must be resolved not by political but by legal means. and judicial procedures followed by Iranian authorities and media movements, ”added a spokesman for the State Department.
Earlier, a French Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman assessed that “Iran’s seizure of two oil tankers with the Greek flag on Friday was a serious violation of international law, which France strongly condemns.”
“We call on Iran to immediately release the two tankers and their crew,” the statement said.
Germany also urged Iran to “immediately release the two ships and their crews”, considering the detention of two oil tankers sailing under the Greek flag in the Gulf as an unfair interference with civil navigation. and is therefore a serious violation of international policy ”. and respect freedom of navigation and safety at sea. ”
On Friday, May 27, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards navy seized two Greek tankers, the Prudent Warrior and Delta Poseidon, for “violations” in the deep blue waters of the Gulf.
One of the Greek tankers was captured near Asalouyeh and the other near Bandar Lengeh, near the island of Hendurabi in the Gulf.
While Greece seized a ship carrying oil with the Iranian flag last month, media outlets reported that Greece had delivered oil to the United States.
