The attacker responsible for the attack on Wednesday at a hospital in Tulsa, in the US state of Oklahoma, had as his main objective the doctor Preston Phillips, who had operated on him days before.
The information was confirmed by the Local Police at a press conference this Thursday, where the authorities also reported that one of the weapons used in the attack, an AR-15, was acquired just three hours before the shooting., in a shop. The other, a pistol, he had bought at a pawn shop days before.
The gunman claimed four deaths after shooting into the Natalie building at the hospital. One of them was his doctor; the rest was another doctor, the receptionist and a patient.
At the press conference, local police chief Wendell Franklin confirmed that the investigation concluded the shooter was a patient of Preston Phillips, who had undergone back surgery on May 19. He had an appointment the day before the attack. He called the doctor’s office again the day of the attack. “complaining of back pain and asking for more follow-up”.
The investigators concluded that the motive for the attack was precisely revenge on the doctor. The idea was confirmed by a letter found in the gunman’s pocket, “which made it clear that he had gone there for the purpose of killing Dr. Phillips,” the Tulsa police chief said.
Even before that, one of the local police captains, Richard Meulenberg, had explained to CNN that the attack seemed to have been studied, with a particular objective: “He chose this place on purpose, went to a specific floor and shot with a specific purpose.he said. “This was not a random shooting.”
The attacker ended up shooting himself and later dying from his injuries.
This attack came about a week after the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and another racially motivated shooting in Buffalo, New York. United States President Joe Biden has asked Congress to consider adopting new rules on access to firearms in the United States.
