ROME — Pope Francis said on Sunday that Satan is a spirit of negativity that encourages “gossip and doing nothing” to divide people.
Bitterness, pessimism, and negativity “do not come from the Holy Spirit,” said the Pope in his sermon at the Mass at Pentecost. “They come from bad friends with negatives.”
The devil often uses this technique; “It fuels impatience and self-pity, and the need to blame others for all our problems in self-pity,” he said. “It makes us angry, suspicious, and hostile.”
“Complaints are the language of evil spirits; He wants you to complain, frown, make a funeral face,” he continued. “The Holy Spirit encourages us not to give up and always start over.”
“Jealousy is the door through which evil spirits enter,” Francis said. “This is what the Bible tells us: Evil has entered the world through the jealousy of Satan. So don’t be jealous! ”
Evil “encourages gossip and never speaks,” said the Holy Spirit, as he directs us to love especially in the here and now. “Useless gossip is a bad habit; It destroys one’s character.”
The Pope insisted that the Holy Spirit was “practical, not idealistic.” “He wants us to focus on the here and now because the place and time we are in is full of grace.”
But the spirit of evil will drive us away from the here and now and put us elsewhere.” “It often connects us to the past: to our regrets, nostalgia, failures. Or it shows us the future by feeding our fears, illusions, and false hopes.
The earthly spirit causes us to “focus on our own interests and interests, our need to appear important, to strongly defend the country or group to which we belong,” Francis said.
“This is not the way of the Holy Spirit. He urges you to forget yourself and open your heart to everyone. In this way, he rejuvenates the Church.”
