Maduro praised the Mexican president’s “brave” decision

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro welcomed the “bold” decision of Mexican President Manuel Lopez Obrador not to attend this week’s Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles.

The Mexican president said he would not attend the summit because the United States had not invited Cuba, Venezuela or Nicaragua.

US President Joe Biden refused to send invitations to 3 countries that the United States considers “authoritarian countries in the Western Hemisphere”. what the three countries and the US say are “election irregularities”.

Maduro said the US decision not to personally invite him or any of the other two leaders was a “discrimination” that would guarantee the US the failure of this summit. In a tweet from his Twitter account, Maduro added that Mexican President Manuel Lopez Obrador’s stance is firm and determined. We appreciate your solidarity with the people of Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela. Continental nations deserve to be respected and we will always defend the sovereignty and freedom of the people.

The loss of the Mexican president has sparked speculation about the importance of summit discussions focused on tackling immigration on the southern U.S. border, which has been a priority for Biden and could be a diplomatic embarrassment for the United States.

At this summit, where the USA intends to discuss issues such as democracy, clean energy and recovery from the Corona virus pandemic, the fact that the president of Mexico and perhaps some other leaders boycotted the summit may also be due to the importance of the summit.

But to ease the shock at the announcement, the Mexican president said he would visit Washington in July to meet directly with Biden and send his secretary of state, Marcelo Ebrard, to replace him.

The Mexican president visited Cuba on Sunday (June 5) and called for an end to U.S. sanctions on the island.
