On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, three Israeli officials told the American website Axius that the Zionist regime rejected the proposal of the administration of US President Joe Biden to hold a high-level meeting with the Palestinian Authority last week.
According to the American website, the Biden government is trying to create a “political horizon” or a diplomatic process between the Israeli and Palestinian authorities in order to strengthen the Palestinian Authority.
The newspaper noted that the Israeli government, formed by the parties of the left and right on the principle of non-adoption of fundamental initiatives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, could not take political steps related to this issue.
Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman met last week in Washington with Israeli National Security Adviser Eilat Helata to discuss the possibility of a five-way meeting between Israel, the Palestinian Authority, the United States, Egypt and Jordan. And Israeli officials
According to Israeli officials, Sherman has proposed that a meeting of foreign ministers be held in Washington or in the region.
“The Israeli government believes that the conditions on both sides are not conducive to such an initiative,” Helata said, stressing that “Israel is not interested in taking a photo that will not end in anything, but will end in a crisis.” “It could lead to violence.”
Last December, the White House proposed the idea of holding a high-level meeting between Israel and Palestinian officials overseen by the Biden, Egyptian and Jordanian governments.
Israeli officials said the Israeli government had not responded to the idea for months and hoped it would disappear.
But when the issue was raised again by Sherman last week, the Israeli government decided to state its position more clearly, the officials added.
Another Israeli official noted that the government does not know why the Biden government is pursuing this idea, as the summit is unlikely to take place.
According to Hebrew media, meanwhile, a senior US envoy will arrive in Ramallah in the coming days for talks to reassure Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is deeply disappointed with Biden’s policies.
