The Russian Presidency (Kremlin) confirmed that “a new Turkish military operation in Syria will not help to achieve stability”, noting in another context that “Russia and the West will have to communicate with each other, and this will be on the basis of mutual respect and benefit.”

Earlier, Russian special envoy Alexander Lavrentiev believed: “We believe that the Turkish military operation, as an imprudent step, can destabilize the situation, escalate tension and cause a new round of hostilities in the country.”

According to Lavrentiev, during the talks in Nur-Sultan, Russia will call on its Turkish colleagues to refrain from this step and resolve existing issues through dialogue, noting that “we are ready to provide all possible support in this matter.”

On June 3, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced plans for another military operation in northern Syria to include the cities of Tel Rifaat and Manbij in his security zone, which was established along the border in 2019. Turkey currently controls 10% of Syrian territory.
