25 injured walking on coal in Swiss company ‘ritual’

About 25 people were injured, some seriously, when they went through the fire during a party organized by a Swedish company that took place on Tuesday in Switzerland.

According to the Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger, a company event in Zurich ended when some participants had to resort to medical assistance after walking on hot coals as part of a ritualaccording to local authorities investigating the case.

The alert was given around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and the health authorities mobilized two emergency medical teams and about 10 ambulances to the scene, due to the high number of injured.

The paramedics treated some 25 people, of whom 13 had to be hospitalized with second and third degree burns, according to the German-language Swiss national daily Tages Anzeiger. One of the participants in the race told in the same newspaper that despite having put her feet in the water, the pain became even stronger over time, creating “big blisters on the feet” in most of the participants.

According to the same source, the authorities declined to rule on the case which, after collecting several clues, is under police investigation, and advanced that the event was a training action of the advertising company Goldbach who only reported that “there were no serious injuries” in the incident.
