US President Joe Biden on Thursday expressed “grave disappointment” with the Supreme Court’s decision to repeal the New York State Firearms Control Act as “illegal.”
Washington – Sputnik. “I am very disappointed with the decision of the Supreme Court,” the president said in a statement.
Joe Biden added: “This ruling is against common sense and the constitution and will upset us all.”
Biden called on countries to continue enacting and enforcing so-called “common sense” laws.
Earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Americans have the right to carry firearms in public, in a crucial decision that prevents states from imposing restrictions on the carrying of such weapons.
A majority judge’s verdict, issued at a time when the country is facing a shocking increase in firearms crimes, repeals New York law that requires individuals to prove that they need self-defense to obtain a firearms license.
A recent report revealed that the United States had witnessed 246 mass shootings in 2022.
The Gun Violence, a nonprofit organization that monitors shootings in the United States, says the number of mass shootings in 2021 equals June 5.
