Mexico grants entry permit for 3,000 caravan migrants to the US

The Mexican government granted nearly 3,000 entries to migrant caravan members arriving in Chiapas over the weekend. Instead of trying to stop the group, the authorities gave clearance and allowed them to move north.

The trailer reached Mexico’s southern border on Friday, and members of the Mexican National Institute of Immigration (INM) began issuing a series of travel permits to allow migrants to move freely around the country for 30 days. , INM said in a prepared statement.

INM agents granted nearly 3,000 off from their office in Wixtla, Chiapas over the weekend. According to the INM, the move was taken to block the caravan so that individual immigrants could move freely in Mexico.

The caravan has since been damaged, but the migrants who have been granted entry will continue their journey north. The US government is seeing record numbers of immigrants reaching its southwestern border. Cartel-linked smugglers actively support the idea that US immigration courts are capable of handling large numbers of new immigration cases.

INM’s actions in Mexico are in stark contrast to earlier strategies established during the Trump era, when officials faced caravans with shields and sticks. Last year, human rights activists accused INM agents of using excessive force against immigrants.
