The Mexican government granted nearly 3,000 entries to migrant caravan members arriving in Chiapas over the weekend. Instead of trying to stop the group, the authorities gave clearance and allowed them to move north.
The trailer reached Mexico’s southern border on Friday, and members of the Mexican National Institute of Immigration (INM) began issuing a series of travel permits to allow migrants to move freely around the country for 30 days. , INM said in a prepared statement.

INM’s actions in Mexico are in stark contrast to earlier strategies established during the Trump era, when officials faced caravans with shields and sticks. Last year, human rights activists accused INM agents of using excessive force against immigrants.
