The Italian City Council of Venice (Venice) announced “the introduction of a fee of up to 10 euros for tourists who visit it for one day only, in order to reduce the tourist traffic that exceeds the city’s capacity and the size of its development.” January 2023″.

According to the decision, “tourists living in the city, children under 6 years old, owners of country houses, persons living with local residents, students, travelers and many other categories will be exempted from paying the fee.”

Simon Venturini, a member of the city’s tourism board, called the new system “the only way” to control mass tourism: “This is an important and important step, and we are the first in the world to do this.”

Entrance tickets to Venice cost from 3 to 10 euros, depending on how crowded the city is.

It is indicated that the city council has not yet decided on overcrowding thresholds, which will determine the prices that tourists will have to pay.

The decision stated that “a one-day visit to the city is being booked online, and a team of 15-20 inspectors will patrol the city lanes, bridges and squares in search of draft dodgers.” It will also “impose a fine of 50 to 300 euros in the event of a visitor evading payment”.
