More than 600 flights were canceled today, as of noon, and some 2,100 were delayed at US airports ahead of the July 4 national holiday due to staffing shortages.
The data is on the flightaware.com website and is being cited by the AFP agency.
The situation was even worse the day before, according to the same specialized website, which recorded around 3,060 canceled flights and almost 8,000 delays on Friday.
This situation is associated with a staff reduction of about 15% in US airlines compared to the period before the covid-19 pandemic.
Companies in the sector say they are working to solve the problem, stepping up recruitment campaigns for pilots and other categories of personnel and reducing the number of seats available for passengers.
Airline employees cite other aggravating external factors, particularly the weather or due to Covid-19.
In a post on the social network Twitter, the Secretary of Transportation of the United States, Pete Buttigieg, today reminded passengers that they are entitled to a refund in the event of flight cancellation.
