The head of British diplomacy, Liz Truss, considered one of the favorites to succeed Boris Johnson at the head of the Conservatives, asked her party on Thursday to maintain the “calm and unity” until there is new leadership.
The foreign minister – who had to interrupt a trip to Indonesia due to Johnson’s resignation the next day, following the mass dismissals of members of her cabinet – used her Twitter account to write that “the prime minister made the right decision”.
The PM has made the right decision.
The government under the leadership of Boris had many achievements: delivering Brexit, vaccines, and supporting Ukraine.
We need calm and unity now and continue to govern while a new leader is found.

“The government led by Boris has achieved many successes: executing Brexit, vaccines and supporting Ukraine (in the war with Russia),” Truss explained, adding that now it is necessary to maintain “calm and unity, to continue governing, while a new leader is found“.
Truss’s name, which belongs to the considered “hard wing” of the conservatives — has been promoted as one of the possible candidates for the leadership of the Conservative Party, which will have to find a way out of the current political crisis.
When announcing his resignation on Thursday, Boris Johnson hinted that he intends to remain in the position of prime minister until the next congress of the Conservative Party, which should be held in early autumn, but there are many voices that believe that the current head of state government will not be able to remain in office until then.
