The family of the late Palestinian journalist Sherin Abu Akle has announced they want to meet with US President Joe Biden on his upcoming tour of the Middle East, denouncing the results of the US investigation into her assassination.

Anton Abu Akle, Sherin’s brother, said in a letter to Biden that her family “feels betrayed by the administration’s failed response to the circumstances of the journalist’s murder,” stressing that Abu Akle’s family would like to “meet” Joe Biden. during my next visit to the region to listen directly to their concerns and demands.”

On May 11, journalist Shirin Abu Akle was shot dead while covering an Israeli army operation in Jenin in the occupied West Bank, while the Palestinian authorities refused to hand over the bullet to the Israeli army, but handed it over to the Americans for examination to be returned to the Palestinians.

Washington announced that it had examined the bullet, and the Israeli army confirmed that it had carried out a ballistics test.

And on Monday, the US State Department said the journalist was “probably” killed by gunshots from an Israeli website, ruling out that the incident was a deliberate act.

“The actions of your administration demonstrate a clear intent to undermine our efforts to achieve justice,” the journalist’s brother wrote to Biden, accusing the United States of wanting to “justify the Israeli forces.”

After the assassination of Shirin Abu Akle, who was wearing a flak jacket with the words “press” and a helmet, the Palestinian Authority accused the Israeli army of killing her, but Israel regularly denied this accusation.

On June 24, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights concluded that Abu Akila was killed by Israeli forces, while Israel ruled out deliberately hitting her with a bullet, given that the UN investigation was “baseless”.
