The U.S. military has suspended the contract of a former general who advises the Pentagon over comments he made in a tweet he deemed “ironic” about first lady Jill Biden.
Army spokeswoman Cynthia Smith told USA Today that Gen. Theodore Martin, commander of the Combined Arms Center, has suspended the duties of retired Gen. Gary Wolsky pending the results of the investigation.
On June 24, the first lady criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn abortion rights in a tweet, saying, “Nearly 50 years ago, women had the right to make decisions about their own bodies. Today, that right was taken away.”
“I’m glad you finally know what a woman is,” Volsky replied. His comment was later deleted.
USA Today said the suspension amounted to a violation of business rules for a retired officer and employee on the Pentagon’s payroll.
Wolsky was an Army spokesman who was awarded the Silver Star for valor in Iraq and advised senior military officers, staff and students involved in war games and other military activities.
