More than four months after the start of the Russian war in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for permanent residents of Ukraine, as well as the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.

The text of the document, which was published on the official portal of legal information, stated that “citizens of Ukraine, the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Lugansk People’s Republic, as well as stateless persons permanently residing on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic or the Luhansk People’s Republic in Ukraine … have the right to file … An application for admission to the citizenship of the Russian Federation in a simplified manner in accordance with Chapter VIII of Article 14 of the Federal Law of May 31, 2002 “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation”. .

It should be noted that in the previous version of the decree, the procedure for facilitating the acquisition of Russian citizenship extended only to residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
