The Portuguese Fado Bicha and Surma perform Sunday in Central Parkin New York, United States of America (USA), in a show integrated into the SummerStage program of the City Parks Foundation.
That day, organized in association with the Art Institute, in addition to Fado Bicha and Surma, in a DJ set, The Brazilians Ney Matogrosso and Francisco, the Man also work, according to information available on the City Parks Foundation website. The show is free.
According to the Art Institute, in a statement released this Wednesday, “The invitation for Surma to take the stage at SummerStage in New York stemmed from the artist’s participation in the RHI — Revolution Hope Imagination initiative.an event organized by the Art Institute, in 12 cities in Portugal, which aims to reinvent the dialogue between art and business, culture and tourism, and create bridges between Portuguese artists and world projects”.
This week the Arte Institute promotes two other “major events to celebrate Portugal and contemporary Portuguese culture” in New York: the New York Portuguese Short Film Festival and initiative Portugal in SoHo.
The 12th edition of the film festival kicks off this Wednesday at Lincoln Center — Howard Gilman Theatre.
This year, “the official selection of the festival is made up of nine short films by Portuguese directors and includes movies from animation, fiction and documentary“.
Among the movies is “Two cartoonists” (“Two cartoonists”, by Bruno Teixeira, about António Antunes and Vasco Gargalo, both with international careers and both born in Vila Franca de Xira, “The Girl from Saturn” (“The girl from Saturn”), by Gonçalo Almeida, “The Cooperative”by Rita Al Cunha “Still life”by Francesca Coutinho “Paralympic”from the Hyperion collective (Gonçalo Eugénio, Luísa Campino, Benjamim Gomes, Miguel Mesquita, Vasco Bäuerle, David Arrepia, Francisca Sá and Diogo Pinto), “gold on blue”by Andreia Pereira da Silva, “My castle, my home”by Jose Mira “Her name is Clara”of Catia Biscaia, and “A Straight Story”by Joao Garcia Neto.
In the Saturday“Portuguese heritage is celebrated in SoHo”, in 8th edition of “Portugal in SoHo”that will close one of the main streets of that New York neighborhood, Sullivan Street, “where ‘workshops’ and activities for children, tastings of traditional Portuguese food, stalls with Portuguese books and lots of music and entertainment“.
