U.S. President Joe Biden noted that “as President of the United States, my commitment to the goal of achieving a two-state solution has not changed,” given that “a two-state solution includes the existence of an independent, sovereign, and geographically connected State of Palestine.”

He noted during a joint press conference with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian President’s headquarters in Bethlehem that “we are trying to increase the momentum to breathe life into the peace process and we must end the violence.” Abu Akle, a Palestinian and US citizen, was killed while she was performing her role in the independent media,” stressing that “the United States will do everything possible to support an independent investigation into the murder of Shirin Abu Akle.”

Biden announced, “Providing an additional $200 million in funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to continue its important role,” given that “the Palestinian Authority is called upon to play a key role in strengthening institutions, transparency, accountability and fight against corruption”, noting that “I hope that my visit will stimulate dialogue between the Palestinian Authority and the US Administration”.
